Creating state of the art hi-tech racing yachts for internationally renowned yachtsmen personifies Cookson Boats passion. 31 years in the industry has done little to quell their quest for excellence. The company enjoys an excellent rapport with all the top designers, naval architects, and engineers. Today construction is well underway on their one hundred and forty first composite yacht, none of which is possible without their discerning client base. Most enjoyable are the repeat clients who have witnessed first hand the leading edge of technology and construction systems developed onsite.
2004 saw the development of a new breed of yacht, a semi custom racer/cruiser yacht, the Cookson 50. Initial conceptual evolved as Transpac 52 hull lines were reduced to 50 feet, maximizing beam, and increased headroom to produce an interior suitable for family cruising. Farr Yacht Design was instrumental in designing a sweet hull shape and foil design. New technology was refined and developed to produce a fully resin infused carbon composite hull and deck. Fully equipped with a canting keel and trim tab to maintain stability and the need for significantly smaller crew numbers makes the Cookson 50 a winner all round for the serious club racer with a view to successfully competing in any grand prix event he chooses.
To date, the Cookson 50 has shown remarkable performances reaching and running. She has proven capable of holding her own on the wind against some serious competition. She is a true multipurpose yacht, big and powerful unencumbered by any rule but fits within the rules of most major grand prix events. Variations to generic configuration have been engineered to optimize the yachts performance relative to sailing conditions and the rating band she is to be sailed under Affordable, fun to sail and fast is the hallmark of this new generation of yacht, the Cookson 50.
